Crazy Weather in Iowa

Sunday I'm freezing and today I'm riding in shorts. I still had to wear two jerseys, arm warmers and before the ride was over I ended up puting on gloves and a jacket. I'm not complaining because I got to wear shorts for the second time this year. Our team is sponsored by Greyhound Juice. They make a warming oil to put on your legs to keep you warm. I don't notice it too much during the ride but when I get home that stuff just lights up a fire on my legs. It gets even hotter when you try to wash it off. Like some E.T. trying to fight back because your trying to kill it as it is trying to kill you.

Ice Cream headache without the Ice Cream

This weekend was cold. 20 degrees cold with a northwest wind blowing around 15 - 20 mph. Both days I talked Ryan into riding with me. I seemed to stay warm as long as we stayed out of direct wind but when the wind blew across the lake or open fields I got an ice cream headache. The strange part of the ride is when we come apon someone riding a hybrid bike for recreation. I'm outside because I have to be to put in the miles but if I was just wanting exersise I wouldn't even consider going out when it was below freezing. Oh well hopefully we have seen the last of the cold weather and the annoyance of freezing waterbottles that come with it.

Riding in Water Works

I've been riding intervals in the Water Works park for several years now, because it flat and very little car traffic. Tuesday seemed to be an exception to the very little car traffic norm. That said, I must have scared the crap out of some of the drivers as I passed them in the turns. Throw in a few deer running in front of me, helped make the time pass by quickly. DCorn made an appearance for the ride, now that he is a white collar guy ( formally a brown collar) I should see more of him on the weekday training rides. I like to suffer when others are suffering. Have I said that before?

I woke up this morning to find it had snowed last night. Wasn't real happy about that, but when I read ACorn's blog that it is 80 degrees and sunny in the Bahammas I started to get a little grumpy. Hopefully the snow will melt off for tomorrows ride.

Sunday February 5th

Today was suppose to be a typical day in Iowa. And unfortunately it was... 25 degrees and wind out of the northwest. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be and with Acorn suffering along side me I felt pretty good. I always feel better when someone else is suffering. Is that a sickness?

We did happen on to a skunk during the ride. We rounded a corner and there on the side of the road was a deer carcass with a skunk feeding on it. It surprised all three of us and luckly we didn't get a spray of perfume.

Finished the night off by taking my daughter to Kurt's house to watch the Super Bowl. Ok game, but the referees weren't the best. I did like some of the commercials. That company that had the slogan don't be to quick to make judgements was funny. Too bad I can't remember what they were pitching.
